Christmas in July anyone? I was organizing the pictures on my computer and came across these. I did this activity last December with my students. Here is what you will need:
white paper
green paint
paper plates
small plastic cups
Crayons or markers
Multi-colored Ink pad (optional)
First off I used square paper because it was easier for them to do circles and I wanted to use paper larger than standard so I cut down some extra large art paper we had. I used powdered paint because it is cheaper than buying paint all the time, and I could control how thick I made it. I made my paint pretty thin because it dried faster which helped with the last part of the project. The small plastic cups are usually found in the grocery aisle with picnic supplies, these will be the kind you would put little snacks in.
Spread green paint on a paper plate and instruct the kids to put the open end of the cup into the paint. All they need to do is use it to make the shapes that will make up their tree or wreath. Once they have made their shape with as little or as many circles as they want, they can finish decorating them. Obviously if your paint is wet you should let it dry first.
On the Christmas trees the kids added a trunk and then used the multi-colored ink pad to make thumbprint lights. If you don't want to use an ink pad they can always just draw lights with crayon or marker. For the wreath the kids added ribbons and lights or holly berries. Ta-da. Pretty easy and clean up is nice because you don't have to keep the cups or plates.
