Fruit snacks can be expensive and filled with so many unknown additives. I started making these earlier this year when I started going to school full time and maintaining my job as a para-educator.
Here's what you need:
2/3 cup hot water
1 - 3 oz package of flavored gelatin of your choice
1 - 3 oz package of sugar free gelatin of your choice
(May be replaced by one 6 oz gelatin but flavor wise, the best combo is a mix of sugar free and sugared)
3 - 1 oz unflavored gelatin packets
Put hot water in small saucepan on stove top on medium heat. Sprinkle the unflavored gelatin on hot water and stir into water until mostly mixed. Add flavored gelatins to the mixture and stir vigorously until gelatin is dissolved.
Remove from heat. I pour my liquid into a heat proof liquid measuring cup for easier pouring. I spray my molds with an unflavored baking spray. The molds I used make the finished product look like candy dots, but really they are ice cube trays that are made for sports bottles.
Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, but the longer, the better. After they have set you can pop them out. I usually make 4 or 5 flavors and then use snack bags to make myself a mixture of flavors in a sack. Enjoy!
**Word to the wise, stirring the gelatin vigorously can lead to a little bit of a froth so the first few molds you pour may have a bubbly top. There are two ways to remedy this. The first is to wait until they have set and they use a pair of kitchen scissors to cut of the bubbly part (it goes hard, you won't want to eat it) The second is to finish pouring your molds then go back and use a clean finger and touch the top of the mold. The bubbles will stay on your finger and the rest will be bubble free.
