There's always that question of what to do with old crayons when you get down to little nubbins. I had a container full of bits and pieces in my classroom and none of the kids would use them. I had seen something on Pinterest so I decided to give it a try. I used an old muffin tin and put the bits and pieces of crayons in the bottom of each tin. I pre-heated the oven to 200 degrees and then put them in for 30 minutes. When I checked to see if they had all melted they hadn't so I just kept checking until I could see that the crayons were all melted before I pulled them out.
I let the pan cool before popping out my new crayons. I have seen the same thing done with candy molds so that you shape them as hearts or other things.
*Word of caution: Some of the crayons took a very long time to melt and I ended up with a film of whitish wax that had floated to the top. I believe this was because I had a mixture of crayon brands. It would probably be best to stick with one brand because the melting points will all be the same.
