I am all about homemade gifts especially when it means I get to be crafty. Last Christmas I made a couple of these for some teacher friends and they turned out great!
Supplies:
12" wooden floral ring
Box of at least 64 crayons
green or black acrylic paint
Education related 3D stickers
Ribbon
hot glue gun & glue
scissors
card stock paper
Letter stickers
First a word about supplies: When I originally saw this project done they had used two different sized embroidery hoops and when I looked at prices I decided I didn't want to spend that much so when I stumbled across the floral ring for only $1.99 I was ecstatic. I painted my ring with a dark green paint reminiscent of old fashioned chalkboards but feel free to experiment with colors or leave it unpainted.
Step One:
I painted my floral ring on the edges and front side with the acrylic paint. While I was waiting for it to dry I laid out my crayons. I have some OCD tendencies so I laid my crayons out in a ROYGBIV pattern before I glued them on. I did not end up using the whole box of crayons but you won't really know until you get towards the end. It all depends on how you do your spacing.
Step Two:
After the paint has dried you need to start gluing on your crayons. The best way to do this and keep it uniform is to start with one and give yourself a guide using the crayon.I made mine so the the Crayola logo was center on the floral ring and the space between the bottom of the crayons stayed the same. (Again, I'm OCD.) You may have to experiment a little but once you figure it out you can keep a pattern going. I found the easiest way to make it work was to put the glue on the ring then apply the crayon. I tried it by applying glue to the crayon but didn't feel like I was lining things up the way I wanted when I did it that way. Continue gluing all the way around your wreath.
Step Three:
I cut my colored stock paper into squares big enough to apply the letters of the names I was using and then cut out squares in another color slightly larger so I would have a layered look. After applying my sticker letters I began to lay-out my name and scrapbook stickers on the wreath. Once I figured out where everything was going to go I hot glued the letters of the name onto the wreath and then applied the scrapbook stickers.
Step Four:
I cut a short length of ribbon that I then hot glued to the back of the floral wreath so that there would be something to hang the wreath from. Then using my ribbon I tied a bow and hot glued it to the top of the wreath.
Voila! Completed project.
